An Introduction to Wakefield Trinity 1960 Shirt

Produced by Ellis Rugby, Wakefield Trinity 1960 is a Shirt Polo. It is a vintage 100% cotton Rugby League Polo shirt. Neil Fox was part of an exceptional Wakefield Trinity. That dominated the Rugby Football League competition in the early sixties.

The team included a fine pack of forwards led by Derek “Rocky” Turner. Turner began his professional rugby league career at Hull KR. And then joined Oldham in 1955. He made his début for the Roughyeds against Hunslet. Turner won 11 of his 24 Great Britain caps, by winning the Ashes in 1956. Additionally, In March 1959, Turner signed Trinity for £8,000. He went on to captain Wakefield Trinity in three Challenge Cup victories (1960, 1962 and 1963). 38–5 victory over Hull F.C. in 1960, 12–6 victory over Huddersfield in 1962 and 25–10 victory over Wigan in 1963.

Jack Wilkinson played as an enforcer in the front row. He joined Wakefield Trinity from Halifax in 1959. Besides, he was inducted into the Wakefield Trinity Hall of Fame.

Don Vines was the blindside prop in the 1960 Final. Moreover, he was born in Newbridge, Wales. And he played for his local club starting in the Centre position. But then moving into the Forwards. He joined Wakefield Trinity. And supplemented his rugby wages with working as a blacksmith at Crigglestone Colliery. He played a representative rugby league for Great Britain, Wales and Other Nationalities. And was also a part-time wrestler.

Besides, Alan Skene scored two fine tries in the Wembley victory in 1960. Skene accompanied Neil Fox in the Centre’s to make a formidable partnership. As a South African athlete, he was a pupil at Muizenberg High School. In addition, he played Rugby Union for Western Province. At Rugby League, he played for South Africa, World Rugby League XIII. Moreover, he enjoyed a spell with Australian club South Sydney Rabbitohs.

At half-back, Wakefield fielded two local boys in Keith Holliday at Scrum Half and Ken Rollin at Stand-Off Half. Rollin scored 1 try. Holliday a brace in the 38-5 victory over Hull F.C. in the 1960 Challenge Cup Final.

Neil Fox scored a Cup Final record 20 points (two tries and seven goals). He scored in the final for Wakefield. A feat that would not be repeated for another 39 years in 1999.
